This glossary of terms intends to provide the TESDA key players, partners, and stakeholders an online and updated TVET information, concepts, to bring common understanding and clarification on the use of TESDA terminologies.



CONCEPT/TERM DEFINITION
K TO 12 covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

it is also known as Key Success Indicator KSIs Indicators help an organization define and measure progress toward organizational goals. Once an organization has analyzed its mission, identified all its stakeholders, and defined its goals, it needs a way to measure progress toward those goals. Key Performance Indicators are those measurements.

LABOR FORCE the population 15 years old and over, whether employed or unemployed, who contribute to the production of goods and services in the country.

LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION RATE the proportion (in percent) of the total number of persons in the labor force to the total population 15 years old and over.

LABOR MARKET
  • a system consisting of employers as buyers and workers as sellers, the purpose of which is to match job vacancies with job applicants and to set wages.  (ILO)
  • the system of relationships between the supply of people available for employment and available jobs. (NCVER 2017, Australia)

LABOR MARKET INFORMATION (LMI) includes all quantitative or qualitative data and analysis related to employment and the workforce. The goal of LMI is to help customers make informed plans, choices and decisions for a variety of purposes, including business investment decision making, career planning and preparation, education and training offerings, job search opportunities, hiring and public or private workforce investments.

LABOR SUPPLY refers to the supply of workers, hours or effort for the production of goods and services, and is determined by the size of the population, the proportion able and willing to work and the number of hours worked by each individual.

LADDERIZED EDUCATION PROGRAM
  • refers to all education and training mechanisms that allow students and workers progression between Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education (HE) or college and vice-versa
  • opens opportunities for career and educational advancement to students and workers. Specifically, it intends to create a seamless and borderless education and training system that will allow mobility in terms of flexible entry and exit into the educational system.

LANGUAGE SKILLS INSTITUTES (LSIS)

it is established to provide workplace language training to add value to the worldwide recognition of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) as skilled workers.
