The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is providing assistance to residents affected by the recent Severe Tropical Storm Paeng, particularly relief packs and provision of skills training on construction-related programs.

In a memorandum issued last Nov. 2, TESDA Director General Danilo P. Cruz instructed all the Agency’s regional directors to conduct their respective assistance, recovery and rebuilding activities in areas hit by STS Paeng (international name: Nalgae) that hit the country last Oct. 29.

“TESDA embraces the distinct sympathetic nature of Filipinos to help our kababayans in distress. The Agency ensures that interventions and appropriate assistance are immediately provided to the affected individuals,” he said.

Under his directive, the field offices were also directed to activate their respective Disaster Team/Regional Augmentation Team to ensure that affected areas would be assisted and provided interventions in terms of human resources and technical complementation.

Likewise, they were ordered to coordinate with the proper regional /provincial government agencies and local chief executives to assess the needed assistance in their respective areas.

DG Cruz said TESDA has been providing assistance, particularly relief packs and provision of skills training on construction-related programs to the residents of disaster-hit areas.

It can be recalled that TESDA has been providing skills training programs to disaster-hit areas. The Agency conducted the same initiatives when the 7.0 magnitude hit Northern Luzon last July.

TESDA employs its training-cum-production (TCP) scheme which provides practical skills and experience for trainees to use the knowledge they gain in reconstructing their damaged houses and earning a living in the future. (30)
