With just a month to go before the region’s top technical vocational talents converge in the Philippines, heads from ASEAN member states and WorldSkills International have expressed their full support for the upcoming WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 set to take place this August.
In a message shared with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), WorldSkills International CEO David Hoey expressed strong support for the Philippines, as it ramps up its preparations for the region’s largest showcase of technical excellence and vocational innovation of the year.
“On behalf of WorldSkills International, we would like to wish all the very best to the Philippines in their organizing of the next ASEAN competition. And of course, we offer our support and help in developing the brand, inspiring young people into the skills, trades, and technologies, and running high-quality skills competitions in the spirit of the ASEAN community,” Hoey said.
Meanwhile, ASEAN officials reaffirmed their commitment to advancing technical vocational education and training (TVET) excellence across Southeast Asia. Further, they lauded the Philippines' preparations and collaborative efforts in ensuring a world-class hosting of the competition.
“This is more than just a competition. It is a testament to ASEAN's solidarity and collaboration in developing high-quality human resources that are ready to meet the evolving demands of the global workforce,” said Dechar Peukpattanaruk, Director General of Thailand’s Department of Skill Development.
“We wish you all the best for the implementation of the 14th WorldSkills ASEAN and express our appreciation to all those who have played a role in succeeding in this competition,” shares Indonesia’s Director of Development for Standardization and Competency, Abdullah Qiqi Asmara.
“WorldSkills ASEAN is a celebration of the skills, passion, and excellence of the youth in our respective countries. WorldSkills ASEAN is more than a competition. It is a platform to inspire, to connect, and to shape the future of our workforce and industries together,” said Director Low Khah Gek of Singapore’s Ministry of Education.
The upcoming skills competition will gather hundreds of young skilled professionals, experts, and officials from ASEAN member states to compete in various trade areas such as Mechatronics, Web Development, Cooking, Welding, and more. It aims to raise awareness on the value of skills, promote innovation, and enhance regional integration in skills development.
This being only the second time that the Philippines will be hosting the competition since 1996, WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 marks a significant milestone in its commitment to uplift TVET, and showcase Filipino hospitality and capability on a regional stage.
