The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) reaffirmed the critical role of private sector collaboration in preparing for the upcoming WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 competition, set to take place on August 26-28 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila.
This after another ceremonial signing of Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) between TESDA and industry partners was held last week at the TESDA Auditorium in Taguig City.
TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez emphasized how the event’s success depended on strong partnerships with the private sector: “Industry partners provide real-world training environments, allowing our competitors to hone their skills using the latest tools, technologies, and processes.”
“By co-developing skill areas, validating assessment criteria, and participating in technical working groups, they help ensure that the competition reflects the realities of the labor market,” the TESDA chief added.
Industry partners and other tech-voc stakeholders primarily extend support by providing access to their equipment and workshops, either for training Philippine competitors or for use during the main competition itself.
TESDA has incorporated innovations since the country’s participation in past editions of the international competition, such as augmented reality in training, sustainable skill area design, and industry-led collaboration, to strengthen Team Philippines’ preparations.
WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025, touted as the “Olympics of Skills”, will gather the best young talents from Southeast Asia to compete in various technical and vocational skill areas.
While the country is aiming for podium finishes, the TESDA chief said the true measure of success is lasting impact: “The mission is to leave a legacy of a stronger TVET ecosystem. We are here to build a generation of skilled Filipinos.”
TESDA had previously signed similar agreements with over 30 other technical vocational education and training (TVET) stakeholders during a mass MOA signing ceremony last July 4, 2025 in Pasay City.
Among those who had earlier expressed their commitment to support the country’s hosting of WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 are leading organizations such as: Achievers; Artemisplus Express Inc.; Astoria Achi and AAHRMEI; Best Drive International/SATA; BOCX/ICTCIA; Daikin; Felta; FELTA GWM/Luxuriant Automotive Group; Hexatronics; Hocheng Philippines/HCG; and, Hypertech Wire and Cables, Inc.
TESDA has also forged collaborations with: Ledesma School of Skills Development Inc.; Lorae Institute; MIHCA; Manhattan Chemical Corp.; Middleby; MSI; Philippine Army; Philippine Business for Social Progress, Inc.; Pilmico Foods Corporation; Pwersa; Samsung Philippines; Savoroso; Schneider Electric Philippines; Shining 3D; Siemens; Unitec Pipe Manufacturing Corporation; and, Zhonghui Yunqi Group.
