As part of the extended observance of World Teachers’ Day and National Teachers’ Month, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) officially opened the national selection for the 2025 Tagsanay Award.
Now in its 11th year, the Tagsanay Award carries the theme “Ika-labing-isang Taon ng Pagkilala sa Natatanging Tagsanay ng Makabagong TVET”, which underscores TESDA’s dedication to honoring tech-voc trainers who demonstrate outstanding excellence, innovation, and service in advancing technical vocational education and training (TVET) in the Philippines.
TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez emphasized that the award highlights the invaluable role of trainers as frontliners in workforce development—mentors who not only teach technical skills but also inspire personal growth, productivity, and lifelong learning among their trainees.
“Our trainers are the heart of TESDA,” Sec. Kiko said. “They do more than teach skills—they open pathways to opportunity, empower communities, and help build a nation where every Filipino has the chance to succeed through quality technical education and training.”
This year’s search brings together 13 exceptional finalists representing different regions nationwide. They are: Ms. Juvelyn R. Camacho from the Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education (CAR); Dr. John Emil M. Sioco from Burgos Agro-Industrial School (Region I); Mr. Robert C. Revilla from Aparri Polytechnic Institute (Region II); Mr. Norman T. Buan from the Regional Training Center – Mariveles (Region III); Mr. Maiko Gil D. Hiwatig from TESDA Batangas (Region IV-A); Mr. Michael L. Manalo from Simeon Suan Vocational and Technical College (Region IV-B); Mr. Anatol C. Burce from San Francisco Institute of Science and Technology (Region V); and Mr. Demetrio C. Pable Jr. from the Regional Training Center – NCR (NCR).
Other candidates are Ms. Wie Ann B. Fajardo from Dumalag Vocational-Technical School (Region VI); Mr. Ronald P. Valdez from the Provincial Training Center – Zamboanga Sibugay (Region IX); Mr. Rosalino L. Daumar Jr. from Cagayan de Oro School of Arts and Trades (Region X); Mr. Raymund L. Luczon from Carmelo C. Delos Ciento Sr. National Trade School (Region XI); and Engr. Roy A. Cabatic from Southern Christian College (Region XII).
The opening ceremony was graced by Deputy Director General for TESD Operations Vidal Villanueva III, who underscored the significance of the award in elevating the standards of technical education and celebrating the selfless commitment of the nation’s tech-voc trainers.
“The Tagsanay Award is not merely a competition; it is a tribute to the nobility of service and the unwavering dedication of trainers who go beyond teaching skills,” said DDG Villanueva.
Over the two-week competition, the finalists will undergo a series of rigorous screening activities designed to test their knowledge, teaching expertise, and leadership potential. These include written and oral evaluations, demonstration of teaching methodologies, presentation of innovative training practices, and assessments in data gathering, analysis, and synthesis, presentation, innovation, green competencies, critical thinking, and creativity. Through these assessments, the finalists will be evaluated not only on their technical proficiency but also on their ability to adapt to emerging trends and technologies in their respective fields.
To further enrich their experience, the finalists will participate in learning sessions and mentoring activities facilitated by industry experts and TESDA officials. These sessions aim to broaden their perspectives, strengthen their leadership and communication skills, and foster a community of practice among trainers who share a passion for quality and innovation in TVET.
The National Tagsanay Award Champion will bring home a cash prize of Php 25,000; the 1st Runner-up, Php 20,000; the 2nd Runner-up, Php 15,000; while others will receive Php 5,000. Special awards will also be given to recognize trainers who demonstrate exemplary creativity, innovation, and leadership during the competition.
The 2025 Tagsanay Award will run from October 7 to 20, 2025, culminating in the Awarding Ceremony on October 20, 2025, at the Ylagan Hall, National TVET Trainers Academy in Marikina City.
