Filipino workers and learners may soon benefit from improved training systems and expanded access to in-demand skills as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) ramps up reforms through international collaboration.

In line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to strengthen workforce competitiveness and widen access to quality training, TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez recently led a Philippine delegation to Thailand for a study visit on advanced technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems.

The visit exposed the Philippine delegation to best practices in ladderized education pathways, credit transfer systems, dual training models, and the integration of green and digital skills—key approaches that can help Filipino learners transition more efficiently from training to employment.

Sec. Benitez and the delegation visited Suphanburi College of Agricultural Technology and Nakhon Pathom Vocational College, and held discussions with Thailand’s Office of the Vocational Education Commission, and the International Labour Organization Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

Areas for possible cooperation include micro-credentials, recognition of prior learning, green skills development, and regional workforce mobility. The delegation was also briefed on the Green Jobs and Skills Measurement Framework, and the ILO Digital Skills Coalition, an AI-powered platform supporting skills intelligence and curriculum development.

Secretary Benitez said insights from Thailand’s TVET system will help TESDA further strengthen its industry-driven and future-ready training programs anchored on lifelong learning and digital transformation.

The study visit also supports the Philippines’ role as ASEAN Chair in 2026, and is expected to inform ongoing reforms aimed at improving training delivery, expanding access to opportunities, and boosting the global competitiveness of Filipino workers.

Binisita ng delegasyon kasama si Sec Benitez ang Suphanburi College of Agricultural Technology at Nakhon Pathos Vocational College at nakipagpulong rin sa Office of the Vocational Education Commission ng Thailand at International Labor Organization Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
