Filipino learners and professionals will now experience much smoother and more rewarding career transitions following a major overhaul of the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF).
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Board recently received a comprehensive briefing on these newly approved revisions, which directly address rapid shifts in global industry demands and ensure that skills training aligns perfectly with actual jobs.
This updated framework directly benefits the Filipino workforce by creating a seamless system where students and workers can move fluidly between academic degrees, technical-vocational training, and professional pathways.
Commenting on the structural update, TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez emphasized the agency's commitment to building a framework that directly impacts economic mobility.
"The economy of the future will be driven by skills, and we want a dynamic technical vocational education and training system that produces skilled professionals who are agile, competitive, and ready to take on emerging jobs," Secretary Kiko stated.
Under the unified approach, individuals will no longer lose credit for competencies and skills they have already worked hard to earn.
Furthermore, updated level descriptors offer clearer skill standards, making it much easier for graduates to understand exactly where they stand in the job market while helping local hiring managers effortlessly validate the exact credentials of job applicants.
"By working together and breaking down institutional silos, we are creating an adaptable education and training system that turns skills development into life-changing employment outcomes for every Filipino," the Secretary added.
On a global scale, enhanced transparency allows foreign employers to easily verify and benchmark Filipino talent against international standards, opening up better employment opportunities abroad.
The revised framework bridges the gap between different education sectors by establishing a shared standard, and is now tightly aligned with the Philippine Skills Framework.
Experts leading the discussions include: Chairman/CEO of iPeople, Inc. and former President of Mapúa University Dr. Reynaldo Vea; member of the Professional Regulatory Board of Dentistry of the Professional Regulation Commission Dr. Melinda Lopez-Garcia; former Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education and former University of the Philippines Vice President Dr. Ma. Cynthia Rose Bautista; and, former TESDA Deputy Director General and member of EDCOM II’s Advisory Council Irene Isaac.
This multi-agency collaboration marks a major step forward, empowering the TESDA Board to actively steward a framework that protects, recognizes, and maximizes the future potential of the Filipino workforce.
