Officially kicking off WorldSkills Philippines Clark 2026 (WSPC2026), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on September 7 marked the start of the country’s premier national skills competition to showcase the technical expertise, creativity, precision, and innovation of young skilled Filipino professionals. With the theme “Your Skills, Your Future,” the competition features more than 30 skill areas and 298 competitors representing 18 regions across the country. The competitors will put their skills to the test against industry benchmarks and standards aligned with the international WorldSkills framework. TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez underscored the significance of bringing the national skills competition to Clark, saying that the event will provide a platform for young Filipino skilled professionals to demonstrate their capabilities while gaining exposure to industry and international standards. “Bringing the Philippine national edition of WorldSkills, the Olympics of Skills, to Clark for the first time is an important milestone. This competition is a spectacle, as it will showcase the world-class skills of young Filipinos, and hopefully will inspire more young people to see technical vocational education and training as a pathway to rewarding careers”, Sec. Kiko said. The opening ceremony signals the beginning of a week-long celebration of excellence in technical-vocational education and training (TVET), as competitors demonstrate their capabilities in areas ranging from digital and information technology to construction, hospitality, creative arts, and other industry-relevant skills. The competition proper will run from September 8 to 10, where competitors will be assessed based on their technical knowledge, accuracy, quality of work, creativity, efficiency, and ability to perform under pressure. “Through WorldSkills Philippines, we are building a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals who can meet the needs of our industries and eventually carry the Philippine flag in international skills competitions. Beyond determining the country’s top skills champions, WorldSkills Philippines Clark 2026 also provides an avenue for trainers, experts, industry partners, and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and promote standards of excellence in TVET. The event likewise serves as a critical stage in identifying and preparing Filipino representatives who may compete in international WorldSkills competitions, further strengthening the Philippines’ presence in the global skills community. The country’s national skills competition has a long-standing tradition of recognizing excellence in technical-vocational skills. Its roots can be traced to the National Youth Skills Olympics in the 1980s, which later evolved into the Philippine National Skills Competition. This mandate was further institutionalized through Republic Act No. 7796, or the TESDA Act of 1994, which tasks TESDA, among others, with promoting and developing a system of skills competitions, including the conduct of a National Skills Olympics, to identify and develop outstanding skilled workers. “Bringing the Philippine national edition of WorldSkills, the Olympics of Skills, to Clark for the first time is an important milestone. This competition is a spectacle, as it will showcase the world-class skills of young Filipinos, and hopefully will inspire more young people to see technical vocational education and training as a pathway to rewarding careers,” pahayag ni Secretary Kiko. “Through WorldSkills Philippines, we are building a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals who can meet the needs of our industries and eventually carry the Philippine flag in international skills competitions.
