He helped in growing the company as effective and dynamic as he built educational programs for young trainees.

The feat achieved by Dr. Kay Segler recently received recognition from the country’s prime agency tasked to develop technical vocational education and training or tech-voc.

On December 3, 2014, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) gave a Special Citation to Segler for his invaluable support and significant contribution in providing world-class training in automobile technology.

"Dr. Segler deserves the accolade for leading the way in involving BMW through its support for advanced training modules and providing access to the company’s innovations and technologies to produce top-level technicians with competencies at par with international standards,” TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva said.

"We need more executives like Dr. Segler, a friend of tech-voc, who can harmonize business with social responsibility,” Villanueva added.

Segler is currently the Senior Vice President for Special Projects – Asia of BMW AG, in charge of expanding the BMW Group’s operations in the region.  An expert in the Asian market, Segler headed the sales organization of BMW Asia for several years.  He also served as an Honorary Consul of Singapore.

In the Philippines, BMW has shown its commitment to education by building programs aimed at driving sustainable growth in the automotive industry.  To support this endeavor, Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC), the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, established the Jose Ch. Alvarez (JCA) Technology Complex in 2012.

The JCA Technology Complex aims to impact BMW's expertise to students of Northern Mindanao and develop world-class automotive mechanics.

The educational facility is built on a 2.3-hectare lot within the Xavier University Compound in Cagayan de Oro City and houses the Xavier University Center for Integrated Technologies (XU-CIT).  It adopts BMW’s training standards to maximize the learning experience of the students in Automotive, Computer, Electronics and Mechanical Courses.  These courses are all registered with TESDA.

The building also features amenities such as training classrooms, laboratories and workshops, library, and administrative offices along with the latest BMW innovations to ensure that students are prepared for the field of Industrial and Commercial technologies.
