THE Technical Education Skills and Development Authority has signed an agreement with the Singapore-based Temasek Foundation for its trainers training program and a scholarship program for students in technical-vocational courses.
TESDA director general Joel Villanueva said the agency’s program will be greatly improved by the partnership with the Temasek. "We believe that to be able to produce technically and globally competitive TVET graduates, there should be a ready pool of TVET trainers who are both pedagogically and technically competent. The collaborative efforts in trainers’ development between the Philippines and Singapore can build bridges of opportunities to further improve the quality of technical–vocational education systems in Asia," Villanueva said.
TESDA is tasked to produce technically and globally competitive TVET trainers capable of delivering high quality training programs for private and public training institutions. At present, the Philippine TVET system has an estimated 23,000 trainers. Of this number, 21,000 trainers have been trained and certified at the basic Trainer’s Qualification 1/Assessor’s Qualification 1 level.
