SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA– The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) awarded scholarship slots to various transport group members in Central Luzon under their Tsuper Iskolar Program on October 10 at SM City Telabastagan in San Fernando, Pampanga.
TESDA Spokesperson and CALABARZON Regional Director Florencio Sunico, Jr. on behalf of Secretary Isidro Lapeña, together with Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region III Chief of Inspection, Je-Jesus Sison, awarded the Certificates of Slot Allocation (CSA) during last Thursday’s launch which was witnessed by key officials of the provincial government of Pampanga.
“TESDA and DOTr will continue to provide training and assistance to our stakeholders from the transportation sector under the PUVMP in the country,” Secretary Lapeña stated.
The initial qualifications and courses available under the said program in Central Luzon are Heavy Equipment Operations (HEO) – Forklifts and HEO hydraulic Excavator, Hilot (Wellness Massage) NC II, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II, Driving NC II and Overhaul Motorcycle/Small Engine leading to Motorcycle/Small Engine Servicing NC II.
“I appeal to our drivers to avail of this scholarship grant as this will help you and your families gain alternative livelihood or employment opportunities here in the Philippines and abroad,” Lapeña added.
The program beneficiaries—drivers, operators, and their dependents who may be affected by the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, shall receive free skills training and assessment, Php350 daily transportation and food allowance, and free entrepreneurship training (for Cluster of Competencies (CoC) qualifications).
Also during the said program opening, Sison reiterated in his speech the need for jeepney modernization in the country to ensure safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance to current Euro-4 emission and standards.
The Tsuper Iskolar Program is now being implemented in Regions I, II, III, IV-A, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, CAR, NCR and Caraga. The most recent launching was in Lipa City, Batangas on October 4 with more than 500 attendees.
A total of 11,302 slots have been distributed under the program since January 2019. There are 1993 beneficiaries currently enrolled while 597 have already graduated in various tech-voc programs.
