TESDA declares wider COVID-19 preventive measures

19 March 2020
TAGUIG CITY - After issuing TESDA circular number 049 Friday last week for Metro Manila, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Isidro Lapeña issued here Tuesday TESDA Circular 050 covering the entire Luzon.

The move was made by Lapeña as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases continue to increase and following President Rodrigo Duterte's pronouncement placing all parts of Luzon under Community Quarantine.

The TESDA chief directed all regional and provincial directors in the island to coordinate with TESDA Technology Institutes (TTIs) and Technical Vocational Institutes (TVIs) administrators to ensure proper information dissemination for the suspension of classes and competency assessments.

"They are also directed to adhere to the pronouncement of their respective local government units," Lapeña noted.

To abide with social distancing measure, the circular prohibits TESDA personnel and trainees to have flag raising ceremonies, in-house trainings, meetings, conferences, workshops and other mass gathering activities.

In line with President Duterte's recommendation, all TESDA offices in Luzon, including TTIs and the central office in Taguig City are now implementing a "work from home" arrangement effective until the lifting of the enhanced community quarantine.

TESDA’s central office in Taguig has been sanitized as part of the agency's health and safety measures.

"We must observe all safety and precautionary measures as the Department of Health suggests and cooperate with any efforts of the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19 until the State of Public Health Emergency is lifted. Stay safe," Lapeña said.

Lapeña has also issued Monday a memorandum addressed to all TESDA regional and provincial directors, and TTI administrators nationwide encouraging them to produce more face masks to be distributed to TESDA employees and other frontline services for free.
